Installing a Network Printer

Sooner or later you’re going to need to install a printer at home.  While most manufacturers have installation packages on their websites, there is one sure way to install a network printer, and that’s by using the IP address assigned to that printer by your home router. 

If you have already taken the Printer out of the box and set it up, more than likely you printer printed a test page or a configuration page.  Typically, on those pages, you’ll find several important pieces of information and one of them will be your Printers IP address.  Here is an example of how it might look:

192.166.1.15

In the video below, we show how to install a printer on both a Mac and a PC.  The video is very short but very useful and it gets right down to installing the printer on both computers.

In an upcoming Post, we will show you how to pull up your printers administrative portal by simply using the IP address and seeing all the features provided by the manufacturer.  we will also show you how to set the IP address on the printer so it will not ever change.  This configuration is know as setting the printers IP addres at a static IP mode.
